MS in Design Marketing & Merchandising

Introduction

The MS in Design Marketing & Merchandising (MS DMM) allows students to pursue post-graduate education after having completed a four year design degree. This unique program allows students to build career skills and gain a full understanding of opportunities and challenges of running a fashion business today. The MS in Design Marketing & Merchandising is a multidisciplinary Fashion Business program which covers marketing, merchandising, buying, retail, distribution as well as other fashion business related modules. During the program students will have the opportunity to work on industry sponsored projects in cooperation with international brands, attend fashion events and visit leading brands stores as well as design studios.

Eligibility Criteria

The MS DMM Program is open to the following streams:

1.        16 years of relevant education. Relevant education consists of four year art & design degrees (List attached). The degree is of 36 credit hours. See  Annexure 1.

2.       16 years of business education. Business education consists of four year BBA degrees. The degree is of 60 credit hours. See Annexure 2.

3.       16 years of non-relevant education. Non-Relevant education consists of all four year non-art, design and business degrees. The degree is of 72 credit hours. See Annexure 3.

4.       14 years of education. It consists of all two year bachelor’s degrees.  e.g BA, B.Com, B.Sc. etc The degree is of 90 credit hours. See Annexure 4.

 

The program employs a variety of instructional methods:

Lectures

The program’s lectures are designed to challenge students by exposing them to the inner workings of the fashion industry as it operates today. Fashion professionals lead students through valuable in-class activities that emphasize key points in the curriculum. Additionally, the program also hosts industry leaders for guest lectures on contemporary topics.

Projects

Individual and group projects, often done in cooperation with industry partners, are a cornerstone of the curriculum. Each project is designed to connect the courses with the working world of fashion. During projects, students have the opportunity to extend what they have learned in class and hone their problem solving skills and creativity.

Industry Exposure

Besides projects students will also have the opportunity to visit international fashion stores and offices as well as studios and workshops that still hold a pivotal position in the fashion production. Industry professionals will also be available to deliver presentations to students providing them insight into the fashion business globally. Students also have the opportunity to attend exhibitions and fashion fairs.
