BS in Fashion Marketing &
Merchandising
Introduction
The BS in Fashion
Marketing & Merchandising (BS FMM) will prepare students for work in the fast paced fashion
industry by providing them with the business and marketing skills necessary to
stay successful. Fashion merchandisers should be able to identify the needs of
the customer and be able to plan, buy, and sell merchandise in order to
generate a profit. Careers as stylist, buyers, manufacturers, and designers, to
name a few, are available as options for students completing their degree in
fashion merchandising.
In the Fashion Marketing & Merchandising program,
students will fine-tune their fashion buying and marketing skills. The program
familiarizes the students with merchandise presentation, visual merchandising,
retailing, store management, and buying. Graduates are prepared to seek
entry-level employment such as retail and wholesale sales, stylist, management
trainee, or visual merchandiser in department stores, boutiques, and designer
showrooms.
Eligibility Criteria
The BS FMM Program is open
to students of all backgrounds who have completed their Intermediate or A’
Levels. All A’ Level students will have to submit their IBCC equivalence at the
time of admission.
The
program employs a variety of instructional methods:
Lectures
The
program’s lectures are designed to challenge students by exposing them to the
inner workings of the fashion industry as it operates today. Fashion
professionals lead students through valuable in-class activities that emphasize
key points in the curriculum. Additionally, the program also hosts industry
leaders for guest lectures on contemporary topics.
Projects
Individual
and group projects, often done in cooperation with industry partners, are a
cornerstone of the curriculum. Each project is designed to connect the courses
with the working world of fashion. During projects, students have the
opportunity to extend what they have learned in class and hone their problem
solving skills and creativity.
Industry Exposure
Besides
projects students will also have the opportunity to visit international fashion
stores and offices as well as studios and workshops that still hold a pivotal
position in the fashion production. Industry professionals will also be
available to deliver presentations to students providing them insight into the
fashion business globally. Students also have the opportunity to attend
exhibitions and fashion fairs.
